Religion encourages Objective Morality which is a huge threat (and challenge) to creepy and deliberately devolved authoritarian/totalitarian regimes who want to encourage Subjective (flexible/self-serving) Morality instead .....in order to self-justify their own nasty selves while manipulating the far too easily-led. Just ask Germany, the USSR, the PRC or the increasingly creepy regimes that many western countries are now happily devolving themselves into via the conformity cult of supposed 'good intentions' deliberately NOT further considered, which will negate anyone not them with a self-serving and self-righteous but creepy smile.
