There was no rescue mission, but Bibi had a back story concocted in order to try and salvage his image at home. Everyone knows Netanyahu is not interested in any hostage rescue planes, but this one dropped into his lap, so he ran with it, making up an elaborate hostage rescue story to fit the facts, after the facts.
