Probably more pollution coming from cars, trucks and motorcycles running past these shisha smokers sitting in their sidewalk cafes than from the shisha itself. Where’s the medical studies showing damage from smoking shisha?
Throughout recent history banning or making things illegal was never about the thing that was being banned, but about those who were using it.
Examples include, but are not limited to:
Opium: users were mischaracterized as “those inscrutable Chinese immigrants”. The immigrants couldn’t be banned, so they went after the opium they used, instead.
Marijuana: users were mischaracterized as “those dirty Mexican illegals stealing our farm jobs”. They needed cheap labour after the war in California so they couldn’t ban the immigrants, so they banned what they did, instead.
Shisha; users are mischaracterized as “Hamas supporters”. Of course no government could come out publicly and say that, so they ban their past time, instead.
Banning curry is obviously aimed at attacking immigrants from India, but you can’t come out publicly and say that, so you send a dog whistle instead.
And the worst drug of all; alcohol: oh, sorry, it’s mostly white Europeans, it’s ok, we can keep it. We make the rules.
