The death rate from measles in this country is exactly 0. The death rate from measles in this country since about the early 60’s is exactly 0. The vaccine for measles in this country was introduced in the mid-60’s, years after the death rate had already plummeted to 0. But the money, time and effort had already been put into a vaccine. And it’s manufacturers were keen to reap their profits, so it remained in use, even though it was not needed or even useful.

Measles virus kills thousands of people in under developed, and in developing countries, every year. Measles has killed statistically zero people in the developed world since the early 1960’s. You could count those cases on your hand. Those rare cases are almost always with recent immigrants, malnourished and weakened people who acquired the virus while still overseas, in some third world country, perhaps in a refugee camp, but who experienced the deadly symptoms after they’ve arrived in a developed country.

There exists no credible evidence to show the measles vaccine is what is responsible for the reduction in measles infections or mortality from measles, in North America. The reasons nobody dies from measles in North America are thus: Commonly practiced hand washing. Improved personal hygiene practices. Refrigeration of food. Indoor plumbing. Refrigerated and speedy food transportation and distribution systems. Widely available and improved general health care for everyone, regardless of financial status. Plumbers have saved more lives than all the Phizers and astra-Zenecas you can think of.
