The hydraulic ram pump is another ancient engineering marvel which pushes water kilometres uphill and over long distances with absolutely no electricity or muscle power, except that of a flowing stream or river. It essentially employs the use of two strategically placed check valves and an air compression chamber, along with inlet and outflow pipes, all of which can be built using cheaply sourced material at any hardware store for about $100.
