  1. Some contractors think they can get away with digging a deep trench (deeper than 4 feet) without shoring it up with hydraulics or lumber, as is required by law. There should be a million dollar fine each time an employer tries to get away with this lazy method. And there should be a $10,000 reward for workers who snitch on their company for doing this. That would end this deadly practice overnight.
