  3. Agreed. But isn’t the mere possibility of Ukraine joining with NATO the very reason or the excuse for Putin’s build up of troops at the border? Don’t forget, Moscow, the capital is only a few hundred kilometres from the Russia/Ukraine border. This may be too close for comfort, for Putin. I think this current troop build-up is a bluff by Putin, and, it makes him look like some kind of hero at home. This is the tactic of a thug, a guy who wants your wallet in a dark alley, he wants to see how much fear he can put in you, just for fun. Putin is trying to see what concessions he can get from the West, while he leans into them.
