In the Spanish Civil War, the trade unionists, or anarcho-syndicalists, made up a large and visible part of the resistance, but others, like anarcho-communists were important. Chomsky's always interchangeably used anarchist, libertarian, or libertarian socialist to describe himself. In one of his books, Rothbard writes about the victory for his side (extreme laissez-faire capitalists) in appropriating the term "libertarian" from anarchists of the socialist tradition. Rothbardian capitalists only became identified as "libertarian" fairly recently, maybe in the 80s.
