  1. Is this shocking? Trump campaigned on single payer and taxing the rich and got an enthusiastic response. Of course he had no intention of fulfilling those promises and as soon as he entered office began stripping Obamacare and passing tax breaks for billionaires. Nevertheless, his base responded to the social democratic policies that Bernie has been advocating for his entire adult life. This is where the country is. For years there's been high bipartisan support among voters for single payer, higher taxes on the wealthy, and so on. It's only in the elite and political echelons of society where these ideas are taboo.
