@traveler8052 There is no such thing as a low level, disgusting language, that's just plain absurd. You made an erroneous statement. That's OK, we all make mistakes, me included, no big deal. But that's not the thing. The reasoning is flawed. Also, it helps to check for mistakes before one presses the "enter" button.

@TheExtraterrestrial99 Taiwan and the mainland have a shared history, so obviously many things come from the same place. But again, their currency is independent. They issue their own currency and have their own central bank. The mainland has no say in this regard. Same story with passports - which are effectively an extension of border control. Taiwan has sovereign control over its own borders and the mainland does not have a say in this. But again, it is not just their currency and border control issues. They have their own government (a democracy, actually) and their own legislative system. They don't answer to the CCP in this regard either. Defense, same thing. I can keep going. They may not have official recognition from most countries due to China's influence and economic weight, but for all extents and purposes, they are an independent country, they behave like one and they themselves claim to be one regardless of what Beijing tries to swallow down our throats.

@TheExtraterrestrial99 As I told you, there are indeed issues re. international recognition - UN matters, whatever that ISO thing is, recognition by other nations, etc. It is a grey area, for sure, and it is a complicated question. The point still stands, though. For all extents and purposes, Taiwan believes itself to be an independent country and acts as an independent country. Ask the Taiwanese how they feel about "reunification" (: - or check out any polls on the question, alternatively.

@TheExtraterrestrial99 I am aware that people use VPNs in China - nothing new. If you - as a Malaysian, let's keep that in mind - want to call the Taiwanese nation brainwashed, you are free to do so. Go ahead. But regardless of your personal opinion, the truth of the matter is that virtually nobody in Taiwan wants to 'reunify' with China. The figures are out there for everyone to see. Taiwan is a fairly free country where polls on these questions can be conducted nation-wide (unlike their cousins over in the mainland), so we have a pretty good understanding of how the Taiwanese feel about Beijing's plans.

@TheExtraterrestrial99 That's a terrible argument, tbh. This one YouTuber you know is clearly not representative of the 20m + people who live in Taiwan and their political opinions. It is a bit like claiming that Malaysians are tall because I happen to have this Malaysian friend who is 2m tall - an awful argument. This point is clear, though: virtually nobody wants reunification in Taiwan and polling has reflected so for decades - this being (not new but) more pronounced over the past few years. This is a fact backed by survey/polling data. Period. The Taiwanese run their own country and don't want to be under the yoke of the mainland (and I don't blame them, because neither would I). Polling data is available for everyone to see, including for folks like yourself in Malaysia. Chinese folks may need to use a VPN (: 'Reunification' will have to be forced against their own will because there is no support for it in Taiwan - and the Taiwanese will fight for their freedoms if push comes to shove (although I am hoping that this never happens). This begs the question... what reunification is that? Lol. Mainland folks should just call it an attempted annexation, then we'd all be speaking the same language.

@TheExtraterrestrial99 I never claimed that the poll involved 20m + people. Never. I said that there are 20m+ people in Taiwan with different political opinions. If you know anything about statistics, polls are all about representative samples. Check out, for instance, the surveys conducted by the Election Study Center at the National Chengchi University. They also make their methodology public. Certainly not a he said / she said thing. Also, very clear that a tiny, tiny minority favour 'unification.' But there are similar surveys/polls out there, it is all about doing the research (: Btw, to be as opinionated as you are about this topic, especially as a foreigner, you should know much more about polling data imho. @TheExtraterrestrial99 I can't with you, really. This is a representative survey by a competent authority. Similar polls by similar institutions yield pretty much the same results. Polls/surveys work with representative samples. If you don't know how surveys/polls are conducted, you should learn more about it. Again, for the third fricken time, I never claimed that 20m + Taiwanese people said X, Y or Z. Never. I argued, very clearly, that Taiwan is a democracy, that polls are conducted on these questions (unlike in the mainland), that there is obvs a diversity of opinion, and that despite said diversity, virtually nobody wants reunification. If it is not clear enough to you, you need to take a course on basic stats: PRO UNIFICATION: 6.4% - Unification ASAP, 1.3% - Maintain status quo, move towards unification 5.1% OPTIONS PRO STATUS QUO AND PRO INDEPENDENCE - 87.3% NO RESPONSE - 6.3% "Twisting information" lol. Not even with the polling data in front of your eyes can you see the reality of Taiwanese public opinion. Not my fault that you have a bias larger than life.
