  1. One cannot help but admire the courage and strength of the Ukrainian people. At the same time, it is a great pity that these virtues have been so cynically abused. The people of Ukraine are suffering and dying not to uphold freedom and democracy, as both they and we are told, but to act as cannon fodder in a war between two sets of gangsters. It is the riches that lie beneath the ground which are being fought over, not the human rights of Ukrainians.

  2.  @briankristiansen821 Not so. Russia doesn't want the whole of Ukraine, just Crimea and Donbass. Crimea because it is Russian and Donbass because its immense mineral wealth was exploited and developed by Russia and by Russians, and they are reluctant to see America steal the fruits of their labours.
