@Justwantahover No he didn't .His essay on Russia/Ukraine relations published in 2021 makes it quite clear that all he wants are the former Russian parts of modern Ukraine :ie Donbass and Crimea.

@1wordtroll Not at all. From the disposition of Russia's forces and their response it is clear that the approaches to Kiev, Kherson and other parts of Ukraine were designed merely to destroy Ukraine's forces and prevent them from attempting to retake Crimea and Donbass. There was never any intention to occupy Ukraine as a whole. Russia doesn't need any more headaches than it's got already and it looks very much as though its objectives are going to be achieved - namely retaining hold of the mineral-rich areas of Crimea and eastern Ukraine.

@TgamerBio5529 He never tried to take the whole country. The incursion into Western Ukraine was merely designed to destroy the enemy on their own ground. This has largely succeeded.

@skdfdjkdfjkd The largely Tatar population of Crimea and Eastern Ukraine was deported and replaced by Russians who Stalin thought were more suited to mining and industrial work. Their descendants still live there.
