  1.  @dimitrianid2417  Bakhmut is a fortress. It was reconstructed after World War II to withstand nuclear attack and to house an army of 20,000 in bomb shelters beneath the steel works. After 2014 Ukraine surrounded it with rings of trenches to hold off the separatist armies. Which is not to say, I hasten to add, that the Ukrainians have not done a magnificent job in holding the Russians off for so long.
