  1. Paradoxically, if Ukraine surrendered Donbass and Crimea to the Russians the bit left over might just have a chance of EU membership.

  2.  @bakedbean37  Donbass and Crimea are parts of Ukraine in name only. They are parts of Russia stuck on to the Soviet Socialist Republic of Ukraine for administrative reasons - by Russia.

  3.  @bakedbean37  "International Law" is merely a euphemism for regulations which advance and protect America's economic and military interests. Putin does not wish to colonise Donbass as such. He - and many actual residents -regard it as being part of Russia which has mistakenly been appended on to the new country of Ukraine.
