And Ukraine should respect the same wish by the people of Donbass.

@artmcteagle Former Ukrainians of Russian descent are not allowed in the Russian military. They can however volunteer to join the partisans armies of Donbass or the Wagner group, which was specifically created to organise those two armies. None of the three units conscripts soldiers.

@auroraalpha34 The will of the people doesn't count for much in these conflicts, I'm afraid. It's pretty impossible to determine anyway.

@auroraalpha34 No It's Russian historically and economically. Since in neither Russia nor Ukraine is it possible to conduct a meaningful plebiscite of any sort , and since negotiation has been rejected ,the matter can only be settled by force of arms.

@auroraalpha34 I don't. Nor does anyone. The Russians living there are concentrated in the industrial areas and many wish to be allied with Russia. That is all one can safely say. Putin's solution, that Donbass should become autonomous, strikes me as the best one but Ukraine was ordered by the West to reject it. The area is sitting on $trillions of gas,oil coal and rare minerals and America wants it and Russia wants to keep it. That's what the war is about. The wishes of the people scarcely enter into it.
