  13.  @PaulsBees  I don't believe for a second that Putin want to take the whole of Ukraine. He will settle for Crimea and Donbass and those other sections of Ukraine east of the Dnieper which he has taken for military reasons, and to give him a land route to Crimea. He might demand Odessa if he ends in a position of strength, but he will probably be content with exercising control over grain exports. Ukraine simply cannot go on like this. Its poor people, like so many in the West, have been fooled into thinking they are fighting for freedom and democracy when all they are fighting for is the right of US-based corporations to make money. Well, a certain amount of money has been made but it's quite clear that Russia is going to keep hold of Ukraine's mining and steelmaking industries, and clear also that it can survive whatever sanctions the West chooses to throw at it. The Ukrainians under Russian occupation are mostly Russians anyway. They prefer to be ruled from Moscow, rather than Kiev.

  14.  @PaulsBees  Ukraine doesn't stand a chance. Putin will stop once all of Donbass is taken and sue for peace. The idea that he wants all of Ukraine, much less all of Europe, is just a myth designed to terrify us into supporting this sick and needless war.

Once Donbass is taken Putin will probably sue for peace and Ukraine will be foolish not to take it, especially if the deal is supported by America - which it will be if Trump gets in. I think you're wrong in believing Putin wants all of Ukraine, much less the rest of Europe. He just wants those heavily Russianised bits of Ukraine which were included in the borders when the country was created in 1991.
