NATO has had its day. It ceased to have a true function after the collapse of the Soviet Union and has become little more than a showcase for the arms industry and a vehicle for American commercial colonisation. The Trump administration, unique in post-war US administrations, does not see a condition of permanent war as essential to its business model. Hopefully he will have time to overcome generations of prejudice and begin to form ties of trade and mutual interest with the Russian Federation - something which should have happened thirty years ago.
