  1. Whatever the figures are, the tragedy is that it now looks very much as though Russia will achieve through war more or less what Putin initially proposed to achieve through negotiation. All the deaths will have been to no purpose.

  6.  @Kolljak  Many older men, with two years training and refresher courses behind them, are now joining up. Russian children learn arms drills and other military techniques from an early age.

  7.  @ocean_monster1  Most Russians would describe it as a totally justified war based upon the considered reactions of an extremely pragmatic leader who cares enough for his people to prevent foreign agencies stealing their birthright. It is a view which I share.
