I worry about those who are conned by it.

Russia is not the aggressor, America and its allies are. The war is based upon a series of moral falsehoods. It has nothing to do with a brave little country fighting off an evil foe, it is about disputes over borders and resources, as most wars usually are. To Russia, this is a war of liberation. Eastern Ukraine was tragically and mistakenly appended on to the new country of Ukraine in 1991, simply because it was part of the former Soviet Socialist Republic of Ukraine, and then only because it suited Russia in terms of logistics and administration to have it so. The Kiev government has not only attempted to suppress the very large Russian populations in the area, but has responded to American pressure and inducements to sign away the vast mineral wealth of the area - mineral wealth which has been exploited with Russian labour and Russian investment for centuries. Peaceful solutions have been rejected by Ukraine, one suspects entirely at NATO's behest, and thus Putin has been forced to go to war.

@PlanetaryCitizen The language was being banned. Russians in senior positions were being replaced by Ukrainians. Dates of religious holidays were being altered. Street names were being changed and following the Maidan rebellion, torture squads were sent in.

@PlanetaryCitizen There was. The language was being phased out and Russians being replaced by Ukrainians in senior positions. Street names were being changed, as well as certain religious practices. De-Russification was a general policy, and after the Maidan Revolution Azov Brigade mercenaries were sent in to supress rebellion by any means necessary. Their activities are detailed in a UN report, and they are of such a nature that YouTube will not allow me to report them here.

@ProfessorTimWilson You might say they were all Ukrainians but very many in Donbass and Crimea do not and did not consider themselves to be such. A process of de-Russification was well in place before the invasion, including suppression of the language. After the Maidan Revolution the Kiev government took extreme measures in attempting to eradicate Russian sympathisers. Attempting to prevent such behaviour has been an excuse for Putin to invade, but the real reason is probably that the vast mineral wealth of the area - which remained largely under Russian control and influence - was going to be parcelled up and sold off to the Americans.
