  1. I think people should realise the COP has little or nothing to do with "tackling" climate change, but simply to find ways and means of making money out of it. These conferences are price-fixing exercises to determine the likely progress of the cap and trade market over the forthcoming year. The poorer nations, who supply the market with its raw materials in the form of unused carbon emission certificates, are seeking to increase the value of their product in much the same way as in the 19th century they might have sought to increase the price of ivory or slaves to an earlier generation of colonialist entrepreneurs.
