It is a sign of extreme intellectual poverty to continually compare the present situation with that in the late 1930s. The differences far outweigh any spurious similarities.

The idea that the situation we face in Ukraine is "the same" as the situation in Europe in the late 1930s immediately leads to the drawing of a series of conclusions which are fatally incorrect. One you realise the truth of this you will, indeed, have learned from the past.

The West missed an opportunity for peace after the collapse of the USSR when instead of welcoming the new Russia it continued to cast it as an enemy. That opportunity is being presented to us again. Instead of feeding the voracious arms industry we should seek ways of forming economic and political ties with Russia.

@julianmansell2379 History never repeats itself. It is very dangerous - and intellectually weak-minded - to believe that it does. It just saves you the trouble of thinking things through and almost inevitably leads you into serious error.
