I'm sure Farage has left the domestic affairs of the constituency in safe hands.

An MP is elected because he/she represents the general majority opinion in a constituency. The pastoral role is secondary, and can be left safely to others. It is utterly ingenuous to suggest Farage is neglecting his duties by using his new status as an MP and the leader of a political party to take his place on the world stage.

Do you expect him to set up an office in the Citizens Advice Bureau?

@jonm7272 What, and sit there 9 to5 every day except Sunday? You don't seem to have much idea of what an MP actually is.
3
He's an MP, not a parish priest.

That well-know typing error on the south coast.
2
Do you have the faintest idea what the duties of an MP actually are?

@jonm7272 He's not be paid just for that. He's not the Citizens Advice Bureau. I daresay he'll pop by every month or so, same as most other MPs. I think you're getting MPs mixed up with parish councillors.

@RoofLight00 My only agenda is to try to make people realise that an MP is not a social worker, and that Nigel Farage - like all other MPs - can leave the nuts and bolts business of attending to local problems to subordinates while pursuing their broader interests elsewhere.
1
@porthmeor1 Do you think everyone should be elected? Do you want to elect your policemen and your dustmen and the lollipop lady?
1
@porthmeor1 Your parliamentary member is elected. In electing Farage the people of Clacton have given him permission to employ an (unelected) staff to attend to the nuts and bolts of local matters which he can bring to the attention of central government, if necessary. Such matters are relatively few. Most local concerns are the business of local authorities.

@porthmeor1 I don't think Farage is more narcissistic than most politicians. It seems to come with the territory.
1
@porthmeor1 I don't think that's necessarily true. He's obviously a bit egotistical but his opinions and beliefs are quite genuine and he is a necessary counterweight to the globalist uniparty which currently governs us.
1
@porthmeor1 I think he has a genuine concern for his country however, and is not entirely cynical. Whatever faults he may have he is a necessary counterweight to the globalist accord which governs the main political parties.
1
@porthmeor1 I think he has genuine opinions and genuine fears about what is happening to this country.
1
@porthmeor1 Already seen it. This woman's technique might be rather fun to watch but she is a provocateur, not a real journalist. Have you seen the one when the very splendid and feisty Marjorie Taylor Greene told her to F%$^&off?
1
@porthmeor1 Seen it. Have you seen the one in which she tried to interview Marjorie Taylor Green?

@gordonstrong5232 He doesn't need anyone to make excuses for him. You seem to have a very odd idea of what an MP's duties are. An MP is elected because he/she represents the general majority opinion in a constituency. The pastoral role is secondary, and can be left safely to others. It is utterly ingenuous to suggest Farage is neglecting his duties by using his new status as an MP and the leader of a political party to take his place on the world stage.
1
@pandorapiam3374 Well I'm sure they can. He doesn't actually have to set up a stall on Clacton sea front to be able to do so though, does he?
1
@theimperialist2686 There is a considerable difference between the duties and responsibilities of an MP and those of a parish priest or a volunteer in the local Citizen's Advice Bureau. The interests of the people of Clacton will be very well served by a close relationship between their MP and the future President of the United States. The local authority can deal with problems of potholes and dog-fouling.
1
@theimperialist2686 Have you the faintest idea of what the duties of an MP are? Have you never heard of lobbying? An MP with a close relationship with the POTUS has power to wield over and above that of most other MPs. He can influence decisions behind the scenes in ways which you would probably find hard to imagine.

@theimperialist2686 Does it matter if Trump's supporters don't know who Farage is? They don't even know who Starmer is, for the most part. Farage is going to supply a major conduit of information between Trump and the UK. Information is power. Trump will tell Farage things that he won't tell Starmer. Farage will be able to brief Trump on the detailed background of UK policy. He will be owed favours from both sides and is astute enough to be able to use this to advance his own agenda - an agenda which, by voting for him, the people of Clacton have shown their support.
