@paulwalker797 I wouldn't entirely disagree. Russia is a tough country to run - but things are nothing like they were back in Soviet days. The fact is that Russia is getting slowly better in this regard, while we seem to be getting slowly worse.

@ Allegedly and probably. As far as I can make out, you can express contrary opinions in speech or on paper but as soon as it seems likely that you may cause any real disruption, you are eliminated in some fashion. As I say, this is how it appears, but we are fed so much disinformation about conditions in Russia it is hard to say how much truth there is in these allegations.

@ I've heard this too. Why do you think the climate then was more liberal? Is it possible that Putin has been fearful for Russia becoming another US satellite, rather than a truly independent country, and has cracked down because of this? Genuinely interested.

@SheilaBloom. Did you see him when he came out of prison last? Word is they're denying him tinned food so he has either to risk being poisoned or eating food tainted by God knows what - or starve. He hasn't eaten for a week.
