Xenophobia and racism are only relatively small elements in this. Fear of being invaded and overwhelmed by alien intruders, and resentment of the fact that our political class and the police are actively involved in this process are far, far more significant.

@JohnRussell-y3m There are no Fascists any more, or at least none worthy of the name. All there are are angry, frightened people, and those who recognise the justification for this fear and anger.

@Anthropodelic I think it's probably very much needed. The thing is not to allow it to continue once you realise the alien intruders will do you no harm - and might indeed bring benefits. It is, however, equally foolish to suppress it when you realise that the alien invaders do, in fact, want to overwhelm and rule you.

@drummingtildeath A somewhat naive view. It is true that many immigrants are harmless and even beneficial to our society. Others are not. As for the NHS being overwhelmed this is largely because there are just too many immigrants taking advantage of it. And when "guests" begin to behave badly it is time to get them to leave - and certainly time not to make the mistake of inviting more of them.

@JohnRussell-y3m Very much the former. All Farage does is share their fear and anger and try to obtain the power to do something about lessening it.

@Anthropodelic I disagree. It's not inherently wrong. It's inherently right, otherwise we'd be dead as dodos and for much the same reason. When the tribe from the other valley comes over the hill your first reaction should be to be scared of them. Only when they have demonstrated that friendship will be of more benefit than suspicion should you stop being scared. That continues to apply when the other tribe is crossing the water in rubber dinghies.
