Thigs like this have happened many, many times before - but not in front of TV cameras. Personally I found it very refreshing, as are so many of Trump's activities. Yes, there is to be a new world order - and a far better one. The myth of Russian expansionism has coloured military and economic policy for far too long. Poor Zelensky, caught up in hopefully its last manifestation, is past history. He must bow out gracefully while Trump and Putin sort things out between them with - just for once - no need for soldiers to die on battlefields while they do so.

I don't know about the average person, but there are enough of us who are grown-up enough to see through all the hyped-up Zelensky worship which has led to the needless continuation of this needless war.

@ The territory was Russian long before it was Ukrainian, and even when it was part of the SSR of Ukraine it was still really run from Moscow. Russia just wants it back - really to stop it becoming part of the EU. There is a very large Russian population there and much of the industry remains in Russian hands. There is no need to suppose Putin wants even the rest of Ukraine - let alone other countries in Europe.

@PerJohansson-Xeizo The Kievan Rus wasn't Ukraine though. It occupied different territory and was entirely destroyed by the Mongols 800 years ago. Trying to pretend modern Ukraine has anything to do with this dead civilisation, other than having the same capital city, is both disingenuous and dangerous.

A deal has already been reached on the supply of aluminium and doubtless negotiations will continue over access to rare earth minerals, particularly lithium. And a very good thing too. Don't you think mutual trade is better than war?
