June 23, 2023: Thousands of dead fish have washed up on a Thai beach: Climate change stimulated a plankton bloom that caused thousands of dead fish to wash up along a roughly 2.5 mile stretch of beach. The deputy dean of the Faculty of Fisheries at Kasetsart University, attributed the fish deaths to the bloom – an occurrence that lowers oxygen levels in the water and causes fish to suffocate. Michael Milstein, spokesperson for NOAA Fisheries, said that the situation has “all the hallmarks of an algal bloom.”
