@aussie2uGA TFL simply read the Toyota reports. TFL gets their bread buttered by the manufacturers and rarely has any thing negative to say about a vehicle. They are basically a salesman with a video camera

@free_cable Some in the government do give a poop. But there are others in government that fight every regulation or law to lower medical care, save SS, save Medicare, protect the environment, or protect the auto buyer. There was only one party that fought the regulation that new car dealers must advertise the real price and cannot add worthless crap to a new vehicle unless the consumer asks for it. These people don't even try to hide that they are bought and paid for by big business.

@joelurbs2780 I agree and AMD is one of the best. Unfortunately people can and are drawn in by click-bate titles and staged YTer intro pictures. Two of the worst are Scotty and Car Edge but it works because they have a large audiance. If you advertise turds and people buy them, why would you change your product?

They know but we don't and Toyota will never tell the whole story. There are more PR folks working on the issue than engineers.

@joeb2588 I was interested in a Taco but am now eyeing the Nissan Frontier. I used to be a long time GM guy but now if you gave me one, I would sell it the next day. I have had/have 5 Mazdas and with 450,000 combined miles, other than normal tires and brakes have only had to replace ONE oxygen sensor and that was so easy, I changed it in 15 mins. I wish Mazda would bring their truck to the U.S.. As far as full size trucks, you are correct in that none are as reliable as the used to be and for that you have to pay $50-79K.

I think being caught falsifying certification data and being required by law to do a recall is not what I would call owning up.

@briancoleman971 TFLs issue with the TC was just one event, be it embarrassing for Toyota given the clear failure under low load conditions. I understand the transmission issue has also only occurred in a handful of vehicles. Many of these YT channels have become click-bate sky is falling stories just to get hits. The internet is great in many ways but you should never believe anything without independent verification, from sources other than YT.

This is not a Toyota channel. He looks at all brands but concentrates on Toyota since he used to be a Master diagnostic mechanic at a dealership.

@wysetech2000 Usually, you hear about problems from non-YT sources where people post their issues (Forums) . Then some click-bate YTers blow the problem out of proportion. When NHTSA or the manufacturer issues a recall then you know it is a bad problem and/or safety related. Mistakes happen and the rapidly changing technology for emissions/fuel economy will result in more problems than normal. The reality is that the severity of this problem, the required fix, and the recent certification cheating scandal will forever tarnish the Toyota reliability idea. Reputations take a long time to establish and destroy. Honda lived on their engineering reputation for many undeserved years. Now most people see them as just main stream reliability and engineering. Toyota is heading in that direction

Better buy something now because everything is going turbo or electric. Turbos have been improved greatly but is is a complex and expensive additional component that increases the likelihood of an expensive failure.

If I am not mistaken, Scotty has claimed that every manufacturer will go bankrupt, fail and ever new design will have problems. And if you wait long enough he will always be correct as even a broken clock is right twice a day

@jackanderson2773 If you were old enough, you would remember that a simular thing happened in the early 1970s when the EPA mandated emissions limitations, only now the issue is with mandated emissions and fuel economy standards. Back then the American manufacturers produced dogs with quality control issues and Japanese brands produced high quality reliable vehicles while still meeting emission standards. While all manufacturers are having difficulty today, Toyota seems to be the GM of the 2020s living on a past reputation that is no longer valid. Their slogan should be "We aren't your father's Toyota anymore".

@jackanderson2773 There was odd/even but that was if you could even find a gas station with gas. Lines of 20+ cars per pump and before you got to the pump they ran out of gas. It was not the price of gas, you could not find gas at any price. But it was the catalytic converter, EGR, air pump addons required by emission standards that resulted in a gas guzzling 350 V8 engines to put out no more than 145 Hp. And for various reasons American quality took a nose dive. Vietnam war, anti-war protests, Watergate, national guards shooting unarmed college protesters, counter culture, race riots, and gas shortages, but at least there was sex, drugs, and rock and roll. And people think what is happening today is the end of America....really?

@Argedis Turbos have greatly improved reliability over what was produced in the 1980s. Anytime you add a complex component with critical tolerances to an engine you should expect increased problems. An inline 6 cyclinder is simpler and generally more reliable than a V8 with variable timing, cyclinder deactivation and start/stop. And that V8 is generally more reliable than a 6 cyclinder with a turbo.I just bought an SUV with a NA engine because I believe NA engines are a dying breed. Vehicles have all gotten more complex and as a result when something fails it becomes much more expensive. Like it or not V8 engines in consumer trucks are disappearing. I did watch Scotty, in the past, but the constant don't do this, I was wrong about that, this is the end of this company, I am done, this is my last video, No one will tell you so I have to etc., etc. is just click bate and he is laughing at viewers all the way to the bank. When was the last time he posted a video where he actually worked on a car and showed how to do something more complex than adding fluid to the engine? But there are , like yourself, Scotty fan boys that like his grumpy old man attitude....because no one is going to tell you so he has to

@Argedis Wow Scotty is a master of the obvious. How many of grumpy old man Scotty yelling at kids on his lawn other claims have come true? I believe that he has claimed that just about every manufacturer is done and will go out of business.....and if you wait long enough I am sure they will all eventually come true.

@jackanderson2773 I actually believe the opposite is true. People can say anything, just to make money, and thanks to the first amendment they are protected. I am glad that we have a first amendment but in the UK they do not and you don't find the outright lies and false claims there. Saying anything in the UK that you know to be untrue about someone that hurts them in any way gets you sued.

I usually do all my own oil changes but I did take advantage of a free oil change and did so at 1,000 miles. Cut open the old filter and everything look fine. Something to consider when buying a new vehicle,

@chawenhalo0089 No actually I am all in with Mazda. No cheap Fisher Price Toyota interiors and good handling vehicles at reasonable prices. I don't like their CX-60-90 series but everything else is a great buy. I just wish they would build their truck in North America

It does seem strange that American and Japanese assemblies have the same problem. But look at the poor quality issues of brand new vehicles found during a pre-delivery inspection. It is not just fit and finish, it is missing bolts and parts, leaking fluids. Toyota Tacomas built in Mexico have significant quality issues and paying workers $2.50 per hour is not going to get the best workers even in Mexico. Just because factory workers are supposed to follow instructions does not mean it actually happens and certain plants have known and long term quality issues.

@Gadget0343 I would assume it would be based on how many hours they allocate and it is my understanding that warranty work hours are usually on the low side. Once the manufacturer pays the dealer to do the work, the dealer would be on the hook for bad assembly and you know how responsive service departments are to returns. If the go with a long block, they would also have to pay the assembly line costs in addition to the add on part costs. But you are right the bean counters will heavily influence the decision.

@RA-oy6bg TFL had a transfer case failure not a transmission. Toyota has still not explained the cause on that one. TFL had video of exactly what they were doing when the failure occurred and it was no more stressful that driving up a steep driveway

@wysetech2000 I may have missed it but I did not think Toyota ever answered why it broke. It was a part that was supposed to break when putting excessive strain of the 4wd system so as to protect the rest of the transfer case. Since all parts are made by the same supplier why did that one part fail? Where was the quality control? If one failed how many other defective parts are out their waiting for that one time someone tries 4wd in difficult terrain years after they bought the vehicle?

You move Tacoma production from Texas ($15+ per hour) to Mexico ($2.50 per hour) shutdown factory operations for 1 month because you cannot attract workers at that low a wage, then add $10,000 to the price of a new gen design with quality control issues at delivery is facts not hate.

I believe that he is talking about YTers that always seem to have a click-bate title or catchy crazy intro picture. For many YTers it is all about viewers and the content is lacking. I know exactly who he is talking about.

So far, the Taco trans issue is limited to a verifiable handful of vehicles. Many YTers are just click-bate crazy into picture, no real content just repeating what another YTer said ....all just looking for views

@DrShanksALot As I understand it, the Tundra engine problems stated showing up in late 2022. And like AMD says it takes a while to 1- understand what caused the problem, 2- which vehicles are affected, and 3- how to fix the issue. Engineering is an exact science but it takes time to fully understand a problem. If you watch TFL, they test a lot of trucks and experience increased trans temps on many. Anyone who tows at the max capacity should expect issues in extreme conditions. I am not a Toyota fan boy and think they no longer live up to their old reputation, I also agree that TFL has got their head up the backside of the manufacturers. They go to great lengths to highlight the pros and downplay the cons. Salespeople with a video camera

@DrShanksALot Unfortunately, if you need access to the manufacturers new products and want to be flown 1st class to a nice destination and stay at a 5 star hotel you must play nice. I just take that into account when I watch TFL videos. I agree that Toyota is losing the reliability reputation and from my perspective that is really all they had. I would call out their interiors as Fisher Price plastic like but that would be a disservice to Fisher Price toys. I originally wanted a Taco but the price increase turned me off. I am now looking at Nissan. Honda used to be a great engineering company but that reputation has long since gone. Honda is the only large manufacturer still using timing belts and they have had two separate issues with premature failure. Instead of making a better belt or switching to a chain, they simply added to the owners manual "for severe service change the timing belt at 60k miles. So basically if your timing belt breaks and you have 61k miles, you eat the damage. And you have to do a lot of disassemble to access the belt and that runs ~ $2500-3000 at a dealer. They also had the bad vibration issue with the CRV and the fix was just install isolators on the front seats so the driver could no longer feel the excessive vibration at idle. They only did that after numerous YT videos showed how severe the problem was. I will just stay away from turbos as long as I can. Good luck with your truck purchase because these days there is no clear winner.

It was Toyota that introduced the "Just in Time" concept as part of their Kaizen, that the rest of the industry embraced. It worked great until the pandemic when supply chain issues completely stopped production just because of unavailability of a minor part. So that did not work out very well. If you watch some Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) videos you will be amazed at what is leaving the factory AFTER their post-build quality inspection. There appears to be many issues with finding quality workers at a wage the manufacturers are willing to pay.
