In the old days (i.e. the 1980s and 90s) a new TV show with Delia Smith would often result in panic buying of whatever ingredients she mentioned. Mass psychology is complex.

Without schools, the police, road repair, a legal system, an army and hospitals there would be no economic growth. This is why the only 'free market ' countries without a mixed economy* are/were basket cases that are/were in borderline anarchy. *the US is 'free market' but state spending is still well over 30% GDP.

Or a news show of Brexit types that are terrified people will realise they've been Brexited right up the tradesmans so they're trying their hardest to deflect. Yes people can be hysterical and fall for media panics but there's very real problems behind the scenes.

Yep, Fred West Jnr here will get his food delivered by Waitrose. He's not going to be standing in the Tesco watching their fridges drip and people flip out over a shortage of veg.

That's gone on for a long time. There were certainly decent courses back then ( I knew a fair few people at university who'd got on access courses after being unemployed), but a lot of scam artists as well. This has continued. There's lots of money to be made in exploiting the desperate.

ALDI are German so probably have a lot of long-term relationships with European suppliers.

@Bev Bev The British political system is such that with an 80 seat majority it doesn't matter what the opposition do - Boris can (and does) ignore them.
