@uclajd A good union sets standard minimum wages for various kinds of roles and rules regarding work conditions, as well as making themselves reachable if there's a problem. If the management of the company has a problem with that, that's on them.

@uclajd 1) Yep, exactly. As compared to the companies that gang up and extort them for lower than market wages. Market wages in a free market tend to be lower precisely because there is such a high power gradient at the negotiating table in such a scenario. 2) I can't comment on that particular union, but do recall that both pilots in that crash had had sufficient resting time, but the first officer had trouble getting the sleep she needed and the reporting structure was not set up such that she could report that issue without consequence.
