@agh0x01 Though technically the console is also graphical in a way, just much more limited as it's restricted to outputting characters (albeit in a font of your choice, and these days usually with colour).

@thederpykrafter Part of what makes Stallman annoying is that he's often correct. IMHO though his annoyingness has really harmed his own movement, which is a real shame. Just think what could happen if the FSF were lead by a charismatic public figure for a few years. That said, the FSF's doggedness has sometimes gotten in the way of their own ideals I think. This is seen for example in the fact that they do not consider an OS (or distro) free if it allows the user to install unfree software from their package manager or equivalent.

apropos is also very useful. And never forget man.

@theboringplanet Oh man. I'm gunna write a "meta-apropos" script just to cover that edge-case.

It's been there a long time, I would be surprised if there were any distros that either used an alias passing --no-preserve-root or used an old enough version of rm that it didn't have that guard.

I've been gradually working on getting a NixOS system set up on one of my computers as a system for developing Haskell programs, but I've found it significantly harder than Arch (which I have on my daily driver). Mainly I think this is down to configurations requiring rebuilds to take effect as well as the fact that there really isn't nearly the same amount of documentation.

@leandrew2725 The worst is when you google "cmd equivalent of [really basic POSIX tool you always use in linux]" and the answer is "there isn't one, unless you count this way worse tool that can do something vaguely similar to what you want"

@kurshadqaya1684 Is there a real reason to learn vi these days instead of vim? To be fair I'm decently young, but I have never seen a system that had vi where it was not just vim in compatibility mode.
