Rob, thanks for a great year of quality content - I speak as a cyber-security veteran who understood very little about mobile privacy until I came to your channel two years ago. We disagree on Windows ("don't use it, it's rubbish") and Faraday Bags ("waste of time fashion accessories") but otherwise I can attest to the validity of the advice you give us and confirm that it does work. That's you just making an excuse to be lazy and just "lay down and surrender" without putting in effort. Data is only useful when it's recent and accurate. Old data becomes unreliable and useless quite quickly. I don't know about your "Mystic" qualities but the second part of your pseudonym is probably accurate.

If you lack patience and long attention span, then you are done here - there's nothing anyone can do for you. You need to put in time and effort to maintain your privacy, nobody else will do it for you.

@mistyculous9644 It doesn't matter that he's not signed in - the phone is still tracked through wi-fi triangulation and Google still has the phone and IMEI numbers. Where's his location is tracked at night will be his home address - if the identity associated to that home address and phone number isn't in someone else's online contacts database, then the person or people living at that address will be on another database somewhere. It's a complete "false sense of security" believing you can't be tracked just because you don't sign into apps.

It's a nice theory but as someone who has been a "techie" in the telecoms, IT and cyber-security industry for 40 years now, who started using Linux in 1996 and who only runs (Gentoo) Linux and de-Googled Android on his own devices now, most people aren't interested in being lectured to - the more you try to talk to them about their choices, the more they don't want to accept they have made bad choices. This is especially true of much (but not all of) the millennial generation who have not been taught critcal thinking techniques and believe that "opinion" outweighs "knowledge" and "expertise" - hence the need for them to denigrate such qualities with words like "gatekeeper" or "elitist" to bring such positives down to their level. These days, if someone comes to me and asks about Linux and/or privacy techniques, I am more than happy to help or support them make any changes that they want to. But everyone else can go find their own way and if they want to stay in enslavement to Microsoft or Apple, that's their choice.

Most people that complain about "freedom of speech" in the rich Western World are, in my experience, "snowflakes" that want the right to insult others without being reprimanded for doing so - and usually on the far left or far right of the political spectrum, rather than centrist where most people with intelligence are. I like to remind these people that the point of living in a society is to stop with the "me me me" philosophy that is endemic on social media and demonstrate some tolerance and understanding of others - in the hope of them doing the same to you. It's called "being the bigger person", a much better philosophy than "I want freedom to say what I want but take away your freedom to reply to it".

So if you learn something from all of that, what have you done to counter it? Have you changed anything in your behaviours yet to conserve your privacy? If not, it's "all mouth and no trousers" for those of you sitting here and consuming videos but doing nothing with the knowledge.

@janridingfast1448 Unfortunately, you didn't say the magic words "no Google". Maybe next year? I work in cyber-security but I am an OS and server specialist, I didn't know a lot about mobile privacy until I discovered Rob's channel a couple of years ago. I'd already got rid of Faecesbook, Twatter and all other social media before then, and I already knew how to load custom ROMs onto Android devices - but I did used to stick Google apps on them, until Rob made me see the light. Since then I've followed his advice, become even better informed and can confirm that almost everything he says is entirely true - there are two things I disagree with him on: 1. Fighting against Windows 10's huge privacy issues by installing it and then stripping out "the scary bits" is a bit like hating olives, ordering a pizza with olives on it and then just picking them off before you eat it. I just order my pizza without olives and don't even go near Windows, I stick with Linux (and de-Googled Android). 2. Faraday Bags are a complete waste of time unless you're going out for dinner and need a nice accessory to go with your shoes. The moment you take a non-de-Googled phone (or iPhone) out of a Faraday Bag you are located and tracked - stick it back in the bag and the algorithms can probably work out what you did since you last took it out of the bag. But those are minor things and subjective, otherwise Rob is spot on with his ideas and suggestions.

A Motorola G7 is my daily driver phone, it's at least 4 years old and I picked it up used on eBay in excellent condition for the equivalent of $100 a couple of years ago. I deliberately "dumb down" my Android devices - I de-Google them (if I can't de-Google them then they go in the bin or get sold to some other poor schmuck) and just use a phone for calls, texts, emails and media consumption (with media on the SD card, not streamed over the Internet). If an app is not Open Source on the F-Droid store, it does not get installed. I carry a Thinkpad X220 small laptop running Linux with me at all times and do my proper computing on that - I do it sat down with a coffee when I want to do it, not when the mobile phone demands my attention. I often sit at dinner tables tapping my fingers and humming a tune to myself - everybody else is playing about with their phones but mine is not doing anything most of the time (the battery life is amazing) so it stays in my pocket. Even if I took it out, I've nothing to do on it - unless I plug in headphones and listen to some music or watch a movie!

@MikeJones-mf2rt No, on a "de-Googled" phone (and there is the CLUE for you, right there), the phone is invisible to Google. Even Rob has said that recently, possibly in this video.
