  1. My cousin's husband was officer of the deck running he put his ship on a sandbar or a reef don't remember. It was back in the late 80s, it pretty much ended his career. I don't know it was his direct fault or if it was because he was officer-of-the-deck. Basically grinding your ship put you on the beach with a bucket and a shovel for the rest of your career. At least in most cases.
