Because experts think rationally while dictators think irrationally. History is full of examples of irrational dictators who made bad decisions which made no sense.

NATO should have sent troops into Ukraine before the Russian invasion, which it predicted months prior. That would have prevented the invasion and the war. NATO's failure to act was a big mistake.

The House GOP is handing Ukraine over to Putin on a silver platter per Trump's instructions, while the EU looks on helplessly. Biden is too weak and scared of Putin otherwise he would have supplied long range missiles 2 years ago. Putin has placed Russia on maximum war production economy while the EU and US are bickering and debating which weapons to send to Ukraine, at what cost, and in what quantities. With this kind of "leadership" the Allies would have lost WW2.
3
The easiest thing for Trump to do is to cut off military aid to Ukraine and let the EU handle the war which would force Zelinsky to negotiate with Putin, make land concessions, and end up with a North-South Korea type ceasefire.
2
If Putin loses he will be replaced by a guy who will denounce hm and the war, just like Kruschev denounced Stalin.
2
@KasumiRINA Not soon enough. Russia should have term limits for the President like the US has.
2
@markowitzen that's fraud not term limits. Term limits like the US president, 2 terms and done for life.
2
It's an Ukrainian Special Operation.
2
@cstaub5147 Ukraine has not drafted prison inmates like Russia. Like in Afghanistan, it does not have to beat Russia, just out wait it.
2
That's a great point. At some point Russia will be unable to fund the war and its war economy. And/or the army may stage a coup against Putin. These two scenarios are the most likely ways the war will end.
1
@tiefensucht - it's a war of economic attrition and the US and EU have much deeper pockets than Russia.
1
@xyzzyx62 Ukrainian soldiers are in the trench in order to liberate their territory from Russian invaders. Otherwise they would not be in the trench and the Russian invaders would be back in Russia.

Russia's weapons production + North Korea, Iran and China vs NATO.
1
@andrzejbarcelonafrlk6416 weapons sales to Russia are an important trade for North Korea and Iran. They exchange the weapons for food (Iran) and oil/food (North Korea)
1
@milanmarinkovic3016 there is nothing the US would do about it since we respect other countries sovereignity while Russia does not.
1
@milanmarinkovic3016 Ask ISIS and other terrorist groups who want to take over parts of Syria and North Iraq to create a terrorist state.
1
At this point it is a repeat of the North vs South Korea war, with neither side able to gain an advantage. Best outcome for Ukraine is a cease fire with a contentious border with Russia. Ukraine should have NATO bases on its territory to ensure its security, if not full NATO membership.
1
@charlygriffin2828 it would have to accept it just like North Korea and China did. Or Putin would be ousted the hard way.
1
@johnridout6540 any rational person would have not invaded Ukraine. Putin is irrational because he failed to comprehend the risk involved. He is a megalomaniac who wants to recreate the USSR, which is totally irrational.
1
@BellaMcMill Putin's only goal was to recreate the USSR. He did not take into account the consequences of a war with Ukraine because his massive ego prevented him from doing so.
1
Trump is looking for peace at any cost while Putin is looking for victory at any cost.
1
@markowitzen the US president is limited to a total of 2 terms per the US Constitution. To change the US Constitution, an amendment may be proposed by a two-thirds vote of both Houses of Congress, or, if two-thirds of the States request one, by a convention called for that purpose. The amendment must then be ratified by three-fourths of the State legislatures, or three-fourths of conventions called in each State for ratification.
1
Trump has no problem with letting Russia have whatever part of Ukraine it has occupied, then declare a victory because he ended the war.
1
Biden's policy prolonged the war, destruction and deaths on both sides, turning it into a war of attrition, like WW1. It is the worst case scenario and Biden bungled it all up.
1
Russia is out of prison inmates to use as cannon fodder so it will have to draft men from Moscow and St.Petersburg instead of the Far East provinces. That unpopular move could prove the end for Putin so Russia is in a jam for manpower as well. It is also lacking modern weapons so it is pulling out mothballed tanks and APC from then 50s and 60s.
