I’ve been hearing fears of hyperinflation in the US since 2008. It’s been over a decade and a half, and they’ve generally been consistently wrong.

@VioletDeathRei Kind of a bad analogy, but destruction is a natural part of the lifecycle of cities. Most buildings don’t survive forever (at least in American cities) unless they’re very important or beloved or historically important. So if you’re using that standard, yes, we blew up buildings a few % faster than normal for a few years. So you want perfectly stable prices? That would completely break the economic system and require an unwinding of debt across all parts of the economy (public and private.) Basically, like Islamic or Medieval finance. No mortgages, or business loans. Inflation is the main reason debt payments doesn’t consume the entire money supply (paying down debt deflates the currency.) Deflation also isn’t good for the economy either. Also, historical avg. inflation in the US is 3%, which we are already back to.
