An invasion of Taiwan COULD also be a Crete-style paratrooper landing, not just a naval one.

@Honorbound43 Russia won’t try to conquer Ukraine. It made its demands very clear: make sure Ukraine never joins NATO. If it invades, it’s going to be used as a bargaining chip. Also, Russia already has the power to ‘help’ rewrite Ukraine’s constitution. Russia already has Ukraine half up its asshole. Putin would be a retard to try to annex Ukraine when it’s already compromised in his favour.

15:00 Okinawa was never part of China. It was a tributary of China, but it was independent until Japan annexed it in the Victorian Era.

@literallywheeler Dominican Rep. also faces Earthquakes, it’s literally on the same island…

The thing is that it’s a tactic that’s generally not done due to its risk. The West has tried those sorts of paratrooper tactics enough to know that the casualty rate is extremely high if done against a decent enemy due to the difficulty of supply and the fact you’re basically encircling yourself and hoping you’ll be saved eventually. Not saying it won’t work, I’m saying that it’ll be a bloodbath.

What are the war games saying China would be able to conquer Taiwan easily?

Thing is, I don’t think the Biden admin would actually SURVIVE not protecting Taiwan. Considering 2022 is expected to be a Republican victory, and the idea of containing China is bipartisan, one could imagine that embargoing China instead of going to war would result in a successful impeachment. Also, going to war is probably a good distraction from internal issues.

@jamesdavis9036 The US is the 2nd largest industrial producer in the world. Additionally, advanced equipment is very difficult to convert from civilian industry (hence the need for the ‘Military Industrial Complex’ by the Eisenhower administration).

@КГБ-л3п Yeah, because they wanted the US around. Ironic, but understandable.

@watershed8685 Well, TBF, I did consider it was a possibility. Just not likely at that time. There is indication that Biden called the Chinese to try to get them to stop Russia. Which would explain why now. A self-fulfilling prophesy. Also, Putin was at a low approval rating before the invasion. Despite the protests, his approval ratings have soared (he’s still winning).

@КГБ-л3п The issue in the Middle East was a complete lack of cultural understanding alienated the people who DID actually have reason to support the US. And in any case, the Kurds DID end up rising up and joining the US, and were a critical reason ISIS didn’t just take over. Russia is part of the West. Not to mention they have a bunch of ethnic groups who hate Russia (basically this area’s Kurds.)

@skygge1006 The Chinese military also sucks in terms of training, experience, and leadership compared to the German one in the World Wars. I think it’s unlikely Japan and India would not side with the USA against China, and likely Europe as well post-Ukraine.

@literallywheeler Chile and Japan also face devastating Earthquakes. This is not an insurmountable issue.
