@lenomali LOL, So apparently British colonialism was fine because they built railways?

@youngz13o And China is heavily dependent on Littoral Asia and the US’s semiconductor industry. It’s their top import, and one China has failed to replace after a decade of trying. China attempting to kick out all US companies from China will likely be followed by the US kicking out Chinese companies from their stock exchanges, blocking one of the primary inflows of capital. Trump was trying to reach a trade *deal*, not embargo China. Big difference. Not to mention he ‘failed’ because he got kicked out of office for mostly unrelated reasons. No permanent deal was ever finalized.

William Maina Prices are increasing due to inflation, not Profit Maximization.

@youngz13o Overall trade fell dramatically. The issue with China is that they already fired their one main shot in the Trump tariff fight- agricultural goods- which is why the nominal deficit increased. The trade war was pretty tame in comparison to eg. sanctions vs Russia.

billy jenkins TBF, GE did not see their financial division being such a huge problem. Big mistake on their part, but it’s understandable why they acted the way they did.

Chinese Companies are notorious for massive government influence because they rely on the Government to survive (or be eliminated from the market)

AntonioR Software Japan was another trade conflict like this and was used to leverage a deal with Japan, which happened, and the tariffs were lowered. If you’re going to use that as an excuse... and Tarriffs actually are just a form of taxes, not direct involvement in Corporate affairs. Indirect involvement in the US is also just normal regulations mostly. In China, that often means bribery. Note that China also puts tariffs on American goods, so the feeling is mutual. China also bans way more foreign products. You can’t buy a foreign video game console in China, for instance.

Kay y. Hong yes, because it’s viable to compare a century of being a world power to a decade.
