  3. Koro, The COVID-19 dashboard shows 293 active C19 cases in Australia and 23 active C19 cases in NZ. Their daily new cases seem to be edging upwards since April 19. We shall see. Anniytha, It's a lot easier to lock down a single district when there are very few cases overall to monitor for. We'd have to lock down an entire nation of 39M, and in fact we have been in hard lockdown in my district of 15M three times in the last year which took the rate down to nearly zero each time. It just doesn't persist if you are an international business destination. And unless you cull all the housecats, ferrets, fruit bats, hamsters, mink, pigs, rabbits, and some other species in a district, C19 will just pop up again.

They go exponential. 1 death after 1 day, 2 deaths after 2 days, 4 deaths after 3 days, 8 deaths after 4 days, 16 deaths after 5 days, 32 deaths after 6 days, 64 deaths after 7 days, 128 deaths after 8 days, … and a billion deaths after 30 days. That’s all of India effectively empty.

Viruses do not have intentions but a 100% host kill rate won’t lead to long-term virus survival so these kind of viruses tend not to persist. Natural immunity among the living develops only if they get infected and survive, and some percentage won’t. 100% deadly virus do come along occasionally though. West Nile Virus nearly wiped out American crows in 1999. The disease was 100-percent fatal to crows (less so for other species), but a small number of crows survived as the only strains of the virus able to survive were the ones that weren’t as lethal, and their offspring are now resistant to WNV. More importantly for humans, at 5% or 10% of a community being dead, people won’t come out of their homes anymore until either a vaccine is available or the fatal version of that virus disappears due to lack of spread in living hosts.
