@diasflac0g No one said that One US general noted at two weeks that the Russian troops will be "forced to stop their assault on Ukraine due to a lack of resources in about 10 days. ... They will lack ammunition and manpower to keep up their assault.” That happened and it's why the Russians had to retreat. Or maybe this. What was said at three weeks by a a senior Pentagon official is Russia is running out of precision guided munitions and it is more likely to rely on so-called dumb bombs. That's exactly what ended up happening.

Ukraine has time on their side and Russia does not. Ukraine's present goal is to maintain the stalemate - Russia has no more Ukrainian territory that it had 3 months ago, just small gains in Donbas matched by small losses elsewhere. Since Ukraine outnumbers its foe in manpower by five to one at least, and probably by ten to one, it will get what it wants in the coming months or year perhaps.

Russia can't prevail unless NATO gives it permission to prevail, and it won't. The chimpanzee does not tell the gorilla what will happen.

Russia tried many times but their missiles can't shoot straight. About 60% of Russian missiles fired into Ukraine appear to be failing one way or another (hit wrong target, won’t launch, fail to explode, etc.). Besides, even if they work, they can't penetrate bomb shelters or get past the air defenses around Kyiv's government buildings. It's also why Putin needs to keep moving. Ukraine has cruise missiles too.

Georgia is small (4 million population). Ukraine is big (44 million population). Bully Russia should stick to picking on small countries where it has a chance to win.

Ukraine only lost 5% of its territory in this conflict (Crimea was lost 8 years ago) while the pro-Russian side lost half their military in Ukraine in this conflict. This is a staggering loss rate for so little gain.
1
@poolplexer Possibly the losses are understated since the figures came from the Russian side.
1
@poolplexer BTW, no net territorial gain for either side since May 1. This is called a stalemate.
1
@poolplexer Are you saying the Russian side is overstating their losses? If so, I'd like to get some of what you are smoking. It obviously powerful stuff.

Read carefully. No net change. Ukraine is far more than just Donbas where the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying to contain the Russians for easy slaughter later.

@arifra2062 What was said was UP TO 1000 men a day were being wounded or killed in June only – it was said by someone who doesn’t really know and who just wants to persuade the US to send more weapons (it was a political exaggeration). The Pentagon immediately corrected the person. 500 to 700 a day wounded is more typical. And it's no more than 200 killed per day (on a bad day). There's no evidence that Ukrainian equipment is being lost especially fast. You're the first one to make this claim. When you have 1.2 million men in uniform and are waging counter offensives, 1000 a day would be considered a trivial loss rate. WWII loss rates in France were sometimes 8000 a day. It’s not so trivial for the smaller Russian forces at three times the Ukrainian rate, it’s about 450 killed a day and 3000 wounded a day, probably for 4 months non-stop. The Donetsk People’s Republic have lost 55% of the combat forces they started this conflict with, about 11,000 men killed or injured. This figure is by their own admission. Maybe it’s actually higher.

@arifra2062 Interesting factoid that I just stumbled upon... Over 80% of wounded soldiers return to fight after recovering More than 80% of wounded Ukrainian soldiers are returning to the army thanks to the efforts of military medics. @user-im7tn1yh9c So you are admitting that you agree with the same idiocy that someone else posted. Gullible much?

No they gained 5%. They had 15% before the conflict started, and pushed that up to 27% in the initial month of the conflict, but then lost most of their gains after the first month. No net gains for three months now, just small gains in Donbas matched by small losses elsewhere. Half their military in Ukraine was terminated in exchange for a 5% territory gain. This is a staggering loss rate for so little gain. The 5% of Ukraine’s territory Russia gained in this conflict is slowly being rolled back. They will likely lose pre-conflict territorial gains too given more time as the Ambassador said,
