  1. ​ @juliehealingleaf6211  Child deaths are not considered serious enough in the optics sense to the CCP to warrant a policy change. And I don't think child deaths were happening due to the former policy anyway. The authorities figure COVID will kill more children unless they are protected from their exposed parents so in their strange way were doing the right thing, the thing that is the greater good for the group. Individual rights don't matter much there.

  3. ​ @juliehealingleaf6211  Maybe but the policy was already well-known to Chinese people (in the form of published rules) and the authorities don't care what outsiders think. More likely the policy change was because mobs of mothers were rioting.
