  1. +se7ensnakes what you say about banks inventing money is more or less true, it's called the cash reserve ratio and the expansion of the money supply. Basically of all the cash deposits on peoples banks the demand for that money in cash at any point in time is only about say 10% (it can vary from bank to bank country to country). Banks then assume that ALL their deposits are the 10% and lend out 90% on that basis. So when you put money in a bank, or receive your wages or whatever, the banks expand the money supply by 9 times that amount in loans etc
