The banks are sloped because its sand and this ship is a bit heavier than kiddie bowling. 200 000 tonnes heavier in fact, don't think any amount of rubber tyres would cut it
7
I'm pretty sure it's incompetence on behalf of the captain and crew. They didn't listen and communicate well with their pilot

Ryan Air are buying 50 737 maxs? I won't be flying with them ever again then, I don't care how cheap they are
3
@ismal1790 not only that, all those terrorists were known to them and on their watch lists, yet somehow they managed to lose track of them
3
Poor MoL? 😂
2
Yeah he owns a sweatshop airline
2
@michaelmishow7948 the US military is still using 30 year old kit
2
Great idea
2
@aerofiles5044 it's sand so it had to be sloped. And when a 200 000 tonne ship hits it doesn't matter if the wall is vertical or not, it's getting grounded. The captain of the ship and it's crew are totally to blame
2
@OladipupoAdaraloye lol

@rupe53 it's more the volume of water the screws are pushing past the rudder the gives you control than the speed in the water, apparently she was going 14 knots when they usually do 5 in the canal, this would have created a lot of problems in itself, such as the bank effect and a huge wash for a start. Where did you hear they lost power? More likely that without visibility and any reference points it just felt like it. It's the same in an aircraft when you're in low visibility and flying ifr instead of vfr, you have to trust your instruments and not what your brain is telling you
1
@rupe53 the pilots navigate in the same way as your sat nav does, they don't take the wheel. The captain takes the final decision and is responsible for the safety of the vessel. This was a pretty green crew who were probably in conditions beyond their capabilities
1
You won't see me on one of those again, fuck that
1
River Lagan he said they have 5 737 Max's and they're buying 50 more. Watch it again and pay attention
1
owen fitzpatrick yeah the max's are all grounded cos they keep falling out of the sky. And the engines stick out above the wings cos they're too big for the 50 year old airframe. But who cares anyway? Ryan air will have 55 of them, I won't ever fly Ryan air again.
1
@capnskiddies yeah I don't care. I'll pay a few quid more and stay alive thanks. You're not guaranteed a flight with Ryanair anyway, they're always cancelling them last minute.
1
@SuperTonyony yeah funny that isn't it? They were either complicit or utterly incompetent, they only had one job to do and failed miserably
1
Maybe the company operating the ship shouldn't have crewed it with the cheapest merchant sailors it could find
1
@JohnDoe-re4qy wait so there is a lock? I was told there wasn't
1
bob bobber they spend billions a year on it, it hasn't helped the the US backed a civil war there
1
Their huge salaries and bonuses
1
@HansMcGruber clearly a shit one who didn't know the detail like he should have. Definitely isn't a German engineer that's for sure
1
@HansMcGruber lol he's trying to be German but it's a long time since he's been tuetonic, about 300 years or so. 100 % American bullshitter now
