What they mean when they say it's gone down by 35% is buying power. Their wages have continued to increase and they're very well paid. The nature of inflation is to reduce buying power, for everyone across the entire economy without exception. You do not fix that by increasing wages, that just increases inflation further and drops buying power lower. You fix that by increasing productivity (working harder and more efficiently). If productivity increases sufficiently, you get deflation. This is a shameful, embarrassing and greedy ploy from doctors. This nonsense needs to stop.

Pay is eroded by inflation. When everyone goes on about "real wages" they're talking about the reduced buying power the pound in their pocket has under high inflation. It effects everyone equally and CAN NOT be resolved with wage increases. Increasing wages in this manner is Inflationary, it just reduces buying power even further for everyone even those who didn't get a raise. People demanding raises right now are hurting the entire country. Inflation makes everyone poorer. The answer is to get inflation under control as quickly as possible.
