i think the US should be backing Ukraine but we shouldnt have to. The US just spent the last 20 years propping up Iraq and Afghanistan and has spent over 30 years carrying NATO while the Ukraine war happened in large part thanks to Russia viewing Europe as so weak due to their defense spending falling way below their minimum levels for so long, not to mention many European countries vacillating attitudes. The entire EU combined cant even supply Ukraine and need the US to do half the work which is kind of insane considering the fact that it's a European issue and the US doesnt really have a dog in that fight. Europe was more then happy to let the US subsidize their defense across the last few decades while they slashed their budgets while American's get piss poor healthcare and welfare, they should be able to handle their own problems but with the current situation the US's support isnt just the US helping out but it's a lynchpin to Ukraine's survival.

@guyman1570 The US was a global leader with sanctions after the 2014 invasion while Europe was still pretty friendly with Russia, buying up plenty of fuel even after the 2022 invasion. Europe was also pretty eager to keep trade going and pretty obviously hoped the war would end quickly and they had to be dragged to the fight. Many of Russia's biggest supporters are in Europe as well like Orban and Lukashenko. Speaking of Lukashenko the EU lifted sanctions on Belarus almost immediately after the 2014 invasion even though they're a close ally of Putin's. Trump is pretty middle of the road when you compare his support/opposition of Russia when compared to Europe. I'm not a fan of Trump's, i voted against him twice before and will again a third time soon, but honestly he's so unpredictable that it's hard to tell what he'll do. Sure he's said nice things about Putin in the past but he's also a warhawk (or chickenhawk) so he's always desperate to show off militarily, he was eager to end the Afghan war when he ran in 2016 but that didnt stop him from dragging the war on and doing things like dropping a MOAB just to show off.

I'm not a fan of Trumps, i didnt vote for him in 2016 or 2020 and wont be again in November, but i can understand his position. Europe has spent decades welching and free riding and now they've finally realized the error of their ways but their reaction has been "save us America!" after laughing off Trump when he called out their free riding. To make things worse the Russian war chest is largely money they made selling cheap energy, fuel, and minerals to Europe who were more then happy to profit off those cheap resources while slashing their defense spending so they could spend that money on populist welfare programs. If they hadnt bought Russian resources or had at least maintained their minimum defense spending we wouldnt be in this position so the least countries like Germany can do is to solve their own problem even if it means they may have to tolerate American levels of welfare for awhile.

he's sticking to fairly popular opinions. Even most of Bidens supporters recognize that he's well past his prime and just get contrarian because they dont like agreeing with Republicans and similarly many Republicans support aiding Ukraine but dont like to do that openly since they dont like agreeing with the Democrats. I know some diehards in either group and most liberals i know even said in 2020 that they were voting for Harris more then they were voting for Biden since many people didnt even expect him to make it this long and similarly I know quiet a few diehard Trump fans who still support Ukraine. Hell my boss has had a "Vote Trump" bumper sticker hanging over his desk for the last 8 years straight and he's gotten his friends and employees to boycott celebrities that support Russia, like my boss is a rare Steven Seagal fan and he stopped watching a movie the second he saw the actor and went on a tirade about him all because Seagal is a Putin supporter. Partisan politics has lead to a lot of weird stuff like that where people toe the party line even when they disagree with it, sometimes they do it fully knowing that the part itself doesnt even really support their own line but both the voters and the party keep it up simply because they dont want to agree with the other side.
