You ask me we need real Socialism, not Social Democracy to replace the concentration of power and wealth of Capitalism. Democratizing the economy as was the political sphere. Grassroots community bottom-up organization. A true Democratic Socialist believes Capitalism is not compatible with Democracy. That’s my stance anyway.

Ken Oakleaf Ever heard of Anarcho-Syndicalist Catalonia? Libertarian Socialism aka Anarchism collectivized industry as workers self management. The worker’s owned the means of production. And they were organized and complete decentralized free associations. Stateless and classless society. If you like to know more I recommend Orwell’s “Homage to Catalonia”

Kyler Curtis Yes I understand the difference between Social Democracy and Democratic Socialism. And actually no, Socialism is social/worker’s ownership of the means of production. It’s not necessarily nationalization and gov control of industry. That is State Capitalism and is closer to Social Democratic nationalization and Marxist-Leninist economics. Democratic Socialists could expand worker’s coops and push a collectivized sector of industry. This is not government control, it is simply industry and the workplace being democratized. A DemSoc government shouldn’t nationalize, but push for a post-Capitalist Socialist economy through policy and reform. It’s grassroots bottom-up organization. This is a lot closer to my own Libertarian Socialism, which is Anarchism. The difference is Anarchy requires no State. A Democratic Socialist would have a Democratic government alongside a Socialist economy. It’s close to Bookchin’s Communalism aka Libertarian Municipalism. The government would have a Minarchist function, and elected delegates subject to recall. Believe me not all Socialism is State Capitalist nationalization of industry. In fact that is not considered actual Socialism by Socialists unless they’re Marxist-Leninist. Though Lenin himself coined what the USSR achieved as State Capitalism.

Chad Simmons I disagree. The inclination of humanity and civilization is towards freedom, in all aspects of our lives. The revolution for Liberty, Equality, Solidarity has not stopped. And it’s not about ideological tribalisms, I know that is just more division. But it is about advancing social organization towards it’s greatest potential. Interestingly George Orwell believed also that every ideology is susceptible to, and ultimately leads towards corruption and authoritarianism. All except that is Socialism. Democratic Socialism as he understood it, a classless and liberated society, was the only hope for humanity’s freedom Orwell believed. This due to his experiences in Libertarian Socialist Catalonia where he witnessed the most liberated society he knew.

Հովհաննես Այվազովսկի right now we have the minority ruling over majority, and oligarchy. Democracy isn’t all mob rule. The Libertarian Socialists creates democratic control of a decentralized autonomous society. There was no minority to rule over because it is worker’s solidarity. The archaics of race, sex, gender, ethnicity, religion etc... were abandoned over worker’s solidarity. Democracy can be tyranny of the majority, of it still follows archaic beliefs.

L.J Ross nope. Considering there are a whole wing of left libertarian Market Socialism and Anarchist Markets, I’d say Capitalism is the problem. Capitalism is a mode of production. Free Markets can exist without it.
