Note that modern neoliberalism is an excuse to protect years of coerced accumulated wealth and capital by monopolists that are not interested in free markets. They are the mercantile monopolists Adam Smith was against. First they capture the State to use government to create their monopolist advantages and privileges. Now they call for government out of the economy so that they can maintain their exploited goods. They steal and then claim liberal economics to keep their ill gotten wealth fearing government now used by universal democracy to redistribute wealth. Adam Smith supported government dealing with monopolists to create an actual free market system, not government staying out of these corporations control of resources and wealth. Democratize industry.
