@hara2009 It's an interesting speech but I think you made a method error. Korean pop is not superior to western pop, they are just different. Putting rap into a pop song doesn't mean its quality is superior because it merged two genres, it's just a different way of making pop music. Those who say that the choreography can be stellar but it's not part of a song are right: if I play a CD I don't see the choreography. Much of western pop is authorial and this gives the music a depth that no industrial music can ever have; and yet western pop also has a very good industry that produces songs that you can simply listen to because they are enjoyable. This is not a deminutio, otherwise we would have to say that all pop is worthless compared to classical music. They are just different things. There is no superior musical value in kpop just because there are the choreography, the costumes and the concepts. BSH was the first producer to have idols write songs, he was also a visionary in this because he laid the foundations for their expansion in the West. Albums like JITB and Indigo are the fruit of that choice made ten years ago: it's creativity that makes good music, like that of Billie Eilish, whose lyrics maybe you don't listen to. You say that there was no reason to expand into the West, but this is a point of view that I would call embarrassing: if you make a great product, why shouldn't you expand? Making niche or ethnic music doesn't in itself give a stamp of quality. Dynamite has opened the door to the Western market for all kpop; of course if you assume that it is not necessary to expand... Dynamite could not be given to artists less experienced than BTS, because the song alone is not enough, it also take the charisma, the grit, the talent that TXT had not still. Is it a roundelay? Yes, and for this very reason BSH is a genius, because he knew how to use a roundelay as a global lever. Really, to say that SM doesn't need Hybe because it doesn't need to expand to the West, is a conservative and unrealistic way of looking at music: there is a time for everything and this is the time for kpop to expand. I believe that there is not a single idol who prefers to keep the purity of kpop and not sell in the global market.
