There are, “people,” (mostly chat bots and soulless shills) saying what you said about BRICS totally unironically. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if you get more pushback before people reach your follow up comment.

  3.  @bekeneel  : It’s as much about the pilot as it is the craft they fight in. One pilot defending his or her homeland is worth 50 Russians who would rather be anywhere else that day.

  4. I keep putting in a comment (that I think is relevant) about a video I saw that went viral on Chinese social media, but YouTube keeps zapping it. Maybe they don’t like the word, “China,” now? It’s a fickle, arrogant algorithm. I doubt you’ll get this one either.

  5.  @44johnburton  : I don’t think they’ll ever tell us how many F16’s they’re getting, from whom, or when. They tend to announce these things as part of an explanation for why bits of the Russian army just exploded, rather than hinting at any plans or numbers.

  6. I commented on a different channel about how I suspect we might have reached a genuine inflection point here. I was noting a new change of tone in Chinese social media. Chinese Soldiers who have served in Ukraine (and somehow survived) have been going on Chinese local media to criticise how appalling the Russian army is, and how incompetently they throw soldiers away. This can’t be happening unless China is allowing it. I was speculating it may be a way of trying to shift the domestic narrative from the ground up domestically in China, in light of the latest sanctions package? What do you think?

  7.  @senben9180  : It’s not that people aren’t worried, more by accidents than intent, as Russia’s record in that department is appalling (as the Ukrainians know more than most, to their great cost) but we westerners are not worried by Putin’s threats. You must keep in mind Putin’s history, the fact that he is a perennial coward and that he is weak minded. If ever he got to a point that he wanted to make good on his threats, it would already be too late, as his authority would have been far too eroded by then. He may think he’s Stalin, but the Russian people will not lay down their lives for a lost cause, just because he says so on the point of being arrested, or deposed by yet another revolution. He’s pulled that gag too many times now. You must also keep in mind that the very people who are the main target of these empty threats, the people who would be the victims of any such attack, the Ukrainians, know he’s bluffing better than you do, and they want to take the fight to him more than they’ve been allowed to thus far. They know what they’re doing. To take Putin seriously would be the real act of burying one’s head in the sand.

Putin is sure at war with freedom, democracy, the rule of law, justice, international treaties and, lest we forget, is also a fugitive from the international justice system, wanted for the most serious offences on the books. What makes you think we are, “not at war,” with him?
