I don’t believe our society is quite as, “vicious,” as the government. Most people don’t use such casually cruel, dismissive or incendiary rhetoric as our current government’s hacks use at the dispatch box. I believe the idea of placing asylum seekers in limbo for prolonged periods is a deliberate attempt to force them into positions where they are forced into breaking the rules, so they can be further vilified. The Nazis did the same thing with the Jews. Forced them to steal food, in order to stay alive, so they could call them, “thieves.” It was common practice in concentration camps: place the victim in circumstances where rule breaking is inevitable so as to reinforce your stereotype. Deeply sinister, diabolical.
