  1. Who was it who said, “Politics is about the art of the possible”? In that sense, people vote with a sense of optimism, of possibility, dare I say, “hope,” even? We can forgive lying in politics, but it’s very much about what you lie about, when and how? We interpret political misdirection in certain ways, internalise it and quite often colour the result with our own filters, making some politicians able to get away with more, just because we like them. Johnson was one such case in point, until he did real, palpable harm to the public. People are still grieving over Covid, Grenfell Tower and various other scandalously mishandled injustices, and they’re taking those grievances to the polling booths in three weeks. What happened at the end there? Very abrupt and mid-sentence? Did your battery run flat?
