It’s so apt, ironic and priceless to watch the Tories hoisting themselves by their own petard these days. The Tories just don’t get it, do they? The very reason for their plummet in popularity is because they have allowed the very people who should always have been on the fringes, in a madcap party like Reform (people like Suella Braverman, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss) into the mainstream of power! Now they’re allowing themselves to be blackmailed by these parvenus because they’re too craven to think clearly and too arrogant to admit they were wrong all along! Lurching further right has been the problem! Doing too much of that cannot save them! As with every other problem the Tories face they make it far worse than it needed to be. They’ve handed far too much power and oxygen to the extremist minority and cannot see that it’s exploded in their faces and that continuing to give the Reformers any credence at all is what’s killing them. People are genuinely alarmed by the frightening Mosleyite rhetoric and the flat out incompetence, corruption and waste. The only hope the Tories have is to remember who they once were and reinstall a values based ideology based on, “conservatism.”
